Covering grades IE, 7,8, and 9 the Middle School (Secundaria) offers students a supportive learning environment in which to develop skills academically, artistically, and athletically. We provide opportunities for our students to get involved in causes that go beyond the school walls. Sumando Niñas, GIN, and other clubs allow places for our students to provide community service, while learning how to be leaders. CAT Secundaria (Middle School) is designed to meet the intellectual, social, emotional, moral, and physical developmental needs of adolescent students from 10-15 years of age. All students have a Homeroom to check in, as well as a Morning Meeting once weekly. This allows us to go beyond the academic needs and get to know our students on a more personal level.
Students in the Secundaria (IE, 7, 8, 9) learn the fundamentals in core courses like math, science, social studies, and language, as outlined in the Modelo Educativo from SEP. Students also get introduced to various contents that they might later explore in high school on a deeper level, such as drama, art, and computers.
At CAT, we like to provide opportunities for our students to learn outside of the classroom as well. There are various CATravel trips that are tied to the learning the cultural heritage of Mexico as well as other countries. Whether it be rafting tours in La Huasteca, a newfound understanding of the people and culture of an area or a trip to Washington DC and New York in grades IE, 7, and 8, or Europe for grade 9, these opportunities invite students to learn first-hand.
The Secundaria (Middle School) shares a building with the Preparatoria (High School) students. The building is modern, open and a versatile space with the entire third floor dedicated to grades 7, 8, and 9. Additionally, the IE students can find their classrooms on the bottom floor next to the counseling office. The organization of this space allows us to maximize teacher communication, as well as transfer time between classes. The classrooms are generally, located next to student lockers to make the most efficient use of time. Our students also attend classes in our new state-of-the-art Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
Our High School program strives in building community for our students throughout their three year path with academic planning and achievement, social-emotional wellness, and career and college planning. For this we have a well-knit group of teacher leaders divided in two main groups: Grade Team Leaders and Department Heads.
